A good soundtrack is vital to your overall travel experience.  Music is food for the soul - it gets us psyched up for adventures ahead, chills us out during times of stress, sets the backdrop to our road trips, eases our homesickness (a rarity!) and is an invaluable tool in remembering our days on the road when we’re old and grey!
Here are some of my favourites:

  • John Denver - Leaving on a Jet Plane
  • Kooks - Naive
  • Top Gun Soundtrack - Danger Zone
  • Youth Group - Forever Young
  • Paula Cole - I Don’t Wanna Wait
  • Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
  • Van Morrison - Days like this
  • Nine Days - If I Am
  • U2 - Beautiful Day
  • Green Day - Time of Your Life
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Road Trippin’
  • Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
  • Journey - Don’t Stop Believin’
  • Bob Dylan - On the Road Again
  • The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
  • Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight
  • Snow Patrol - Open Your Eyes
  • ACDC - You Shook me All Night Long
  • Michael Buble - Home
  • Enya - Only Time
  • Foo Fighters - Best of You

Then of course you have the destination specific songs that must be given a whirl:

  • Las Vegas: Killers - Mr Brightside
  • Australia: Men At Work - Down Under
  • Hawaii: Jack Johnson - Upside Down
  • California: Phantom Planet - California
  • Thailand: Murray Head - One night in Bangkok
  • Africa: Toto - Africa
  • New York: Frank Sinatra - New York, New York

This list could go on and on, are there any ‘must-listens’ that I’ve omitted?
