Chan Chan (del quingnam Chang ó Chan = Sol) de lo que se desprende Chan-Chan (literalmente: Sol Sol); hipótesis de su verdadero significado en español: "Gran sol","Sol resplandeciente", "Sol esplendoroso" o "Sol refulgurante" (Aquí se ve un rasgo típico del idioma quingnam o chimú en el que la reduplicación de una palabra adquiere un nuevo significado).
